Volage EX-S by Philippe Starck for Cassina

With the Volage EX-S collection Philippe Starck continues the process he started with Cassina twenty years ago to revolutionize the classic sofa. The quilted capitonné workmanship, an innovative process exclusively developed on an industrial scale together with Starck for the Privé and Volage sofas, has been redesigned and evolves in the Volage EXS project. The even effect of the padded backrest is maintained but following his instinct that less is always more’, the designer changes the appearance of this model by replacing the traditional button with a simple and elegant stitch that hides the fastener inside the cushion.

As a result its bourgeois aspect is stripped away and the sofa assumes a fresh and contemporary look.

The collection system comprises two and three-seater sofas, modular elements that cannot be used individually, chaise longues, ottomans and optional cushion. The sofa has a built-in functional low table, covered in saddle leather in a wide range of colors. The structure is metal with elastic belts. The padding is polyurethane foam. The cushion padding is feather. The base is die-cast polished or anthracite-color aluminum.

Lloyd System by Poltrona Frau
Jean-Marie Massaud has designed Lloyd, a system of storage units and bookcases, with variable geometries. A series of thin vertical wooden rods run from top to bottom on invisible horizontal rails creating grids that can be moved as desired resulting in different sequences each time. A fluctuating score of solids and voids, of light and shade, a playful game that allows a glimpse of the contents without fully revealing them.

In design the Lloyd system Massaud and Poltrona Frau combined the most advanced technology with traditional materials, wood and saddle leather, forming a solid and minimalistic structure. The horizontal elements on which the grids slide are made of HPL, a material that guarantees stability and strength, with a natural oak veneer. The vertical uprights are placed at regular intervals to enhance the effect of movable grids and are covered with Cuoio Saddle or Cuoio Saddle Extra leather. The solid oak rods are cut in different thicknesses and then individually glued by hand.

Sounds by Dimorestudio for Cappellini

Emiliano Salci and Britt Moran have been investing their individual experience and crossing the boundaries between Design, Fashion and Art since 2003, when they founded Dimorestudio.

In this collaboration with Cappellini, the duo creates a numbered and themed collection of floor and wall lamps inspired by an orchestra. Sound 1 is inspired by a trumpet, made of brass pipe with matte black varnished finish and oxidized brass elements. Sound 2 is another interpretation of a trumpet with an adjustable diffuser. Sound 3 has two sources of light and it is defined by cymbals and a Marquina marble pedestal.
