Founded in 1927 by brothers Cesare and Umberto Cassina, the Cassina brand has always been one step ahead of its time. Credited with launching industrial design in Italy during the 1950s, the brand’s identity continues to lie in the marriage of technological skill and traditional craftsmanship. Initially specializing in small wooden pieces, over the years, the firm helped architect the modern Italian furniture phenomenon, expanding its scope to include a variety of furniture pieces—including sofas, chairs, tables, beds, and, more recently, also outdoor pieces—made from top-quality leathers, woods, and fabrics. Along the way, Cassina earned a reputation for its carefully curated designs, and for pioneering quality serial production by working side-by-side with some of the past two centuries’ most famous architects and designers, including Le Corbusier, Mario Bellini, Gio Ponti, Piero Lissoni, Philippe Starck, and Konstantin Grcic. As a result, Cassina’s collections embrace myriad design languages, all unified by a commitment to only the finest materials, forms, and production processes.
Cassina’s enduring legacy has made it a point of reference for the international design community. Combining industrial technology and artisan manufacturing procedures, it preserves its historic values while constantly pushing forward. For the last fifty years, its legendary “Cassina I Maestri” (Cassina Masters) collection, which painstakingly reconstructs furniture designs by icons in the field, has celebrated the design legends that have help to define the brand— and Italian furniture design itself. Today, faithful as ever to its history, Cassina continues to enhance its collection with fresh designer collaborations and extensive research into new materials, processes and products that fit the changing modern landscape.
